The Smack is one of only two pubs named after the distinctive fishing boats, with ochre-coloured sails, that operated out of Whitstable up until the Second World War. The pub is tucked away behind the High Street, away from the lively hubbub of Whitstable and emanates a friendly and original vibe.
The Smack has an excellent reputation for live music and it is always worth popping in to see who is playing. Traditional pub grub is served daily, often with vegetables grown on the premises and the pub licensees are happy to cater for parties, wakes, barbecues and meetings. There are three or four cask ales on at one time and a selection of around nine wines. A down-to-earth pub, The Smack is a great place to have a pint while playing darts, cards and board games and karaoke nights on alternate Sundays are extremely popular. The Smack also sponsors football and darts teams. For a spot of fresh air, there is a spacious front courtyard /garden and a pleasant back garden. And remember to spare a pat for The Smack’s friendly dog.
