The Woolpack Inn, a historic country pub, is situated in the quiet, rural village of Benover near Maidstone. Its cosy interior features wooden beams and open fires and, like all good country pubs, is reputedly haunted – it even has its own resident skeleton in the cupboard under the stairs.
Hearty home-cooked pub food is served, often using produce from the pub’s own garden, and there is an unusually wide wine selection in addition to a variety of cask ales. The pub welcomes families and has a large pleasant garden with an extensive children’s play area and plenty of seating.
Nearby is the pretty riverside village of Yalding with its famous organic gardens which are open to the public. There are also delightful countryside and riverside walks throughout the surrounding area. The Woolpack is also a great stopover for caravan enthusiasts as it has a five-pitch caravan site - Caravan Club listed - in the adjoining field, complete with individual electric hook-up points, fresh water, a toilet and waste disposal.
