Enjoy a Stylish Stay at the Abbey Hotel

Posted: 28th September 2015

The Abbey Hotel, situated opposite the impressive gateway of the medieval Battle Abbey in East Sussex, has just undergone the first phase of a major makeover.

A total of £100,000 has been invested so far, on a complete overhaul of all eight en-suite bedrooms in the historic Grade II listed building. They have been repainted throughout with stylish new furniture, linens and decorations. The bathrooms have also been completely refurbished.

Shepherd Neame will be carrying out the second phase of their investment into the hotel’s lounge bar and restaurant in January 2016.

The work has been welcomed by licensee Joanne de Boer and her business partner Derick O’Brien, who took over the hotel in January this year. Jo has extensive experience in hospitality, property and interior design, and Derick, a Reiki practitioner, previously worked in financial services in the City.

Jo said:

We have been delighted with the fantastic feedback which we have received from customers on the work completed so far, and we are looking forward to the next stage of the refurbishment.

Since taking on the hotel, the pair have already revamped its lounge bar and restaurant, introducing an eclectic array of vintage furniture, along with work by local artists, to provide guests with a comfortable, yet stylish place to relax and unwind.

They have also just appointed a new head chef, James Turner, who is overseeing new breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.

Shepherd Neame’s director of retail and tenanted operations Nigel Bunting said:

We are really pleased with the first stage of work completed at the Abbey Hotel. Our aim was to offer a contemporary feel while retaining the hotel’s historic features, and the results are outstanding. The hotel is in a truly unique location, and we are confident that by investing in this refurbishment, it will prove more popular than ever.
