Sun Lik Beer has signed headline sponsorship deal with the Ocean Dragon racing team in the Powerboat P1 World Championship 2007.
The deal was celebrated today (Thursday) at Shepherd Neame brewery in Faversham, Kent. Britain's oldest brewer is the premium Chinese lager's UK and European distributor.
The Ocean Dragon team visited before departing for their first Grand Prix of the season in Valetta, Malta. The team will be unveiling their new Super Sport Class Formula 382 boat, powered by twin 8,200cc Mercruiser engines and capable of 1050bhp.
The marine version of Formula 1 motor racing, P1 involves courses in excess of 80 miles in length and boats reach speeds equivalent to 200mph. Races attract over 250,000 spectators and are televised to more than 100million homes worldwide via Sky Sports, Xtra and Motors TV.
Shepherd Neame sales and marketing director Graeme Craig said: "This is an exciting and dynamic sport to be involved in, befitting the Sun Lik Beer brand. Britain's oldest brewer getting involved with a hi-tech sport such as powerboat racing exemplifies our strengths as a business; namely, marrying the traditional and the modern.
"Following last year's success, where the team won the championship bronze medal in its inaugural year of competition, we are confident we'll be toasting more success this year thanks to team owner/throttleman Martin Lai and the rest of the Ocean Dragon team."
