Transformed Castle Hotel is Fit for a King

Eynsford’s the Castle Hotel has re-opened after a 14 week long, £90,000 joint refurbishment by new licensees Sharon and Gordon Thompson and brewer Shepherd Neame.
 
A family business, husband and wife Sharon and Gordon and their four children are all involved in the day-to-day running and bring a wealth of experience in pubs and restaurants to the venture.  The couple were previously licensees of another Shepherd Neame pub the Kings Head, Wye.

Originally dating back to the early 19th century, when The Castle was known as The Harrow Inn, the first record of ‘The Castle Hotel’ was in 1904. 
 
Now the Thompson’s have lovingly refurbished it to meet the demands of the 21st century consumer. 

The bar and dining areas have been given a contemporary yet classic makeover, along with seven individually designed en-suite letting rooms. The bedrooms, which include standard doubles, a family room and a suite, are due to be completed in February 2014.
 
A trained chef with previous experience as a property developer, Sharon has designed and project-managed the refurbishment.  She says: “This project has been a labour of love.  We chose the hotel as it is situated in the lovely Darent Valley and we saw the opportunity for a successful multi-faceted hospitality business in beautiful surroundings.
 
“Our offer is high-quality, while still competitively priced, and we’re taking advantage of every opportunity: customers can choose from traditional fish and chips or lobster, a coffee or a cocktail, breakfast or a three-course dinner.  Everyone is welcome including children and dogs.”
 
The interior styling has been inspired by old Scottish hotels. Comfortable leather Chesterfields sit alongside re-conditioned furniture in soft tartans. 

The use of natural materials and subtle stag and antler motifs on cushions and light fittings complete the understated Caledonian chic and the feel of a country house hotel. 

A lunch menu is available from midday until 5pm, with a main menu of seasonal, locally sourced produce available from midday until 9pm. A large selection of Kentish ales, international lagers, wines and whiskies are also available.
