The Royal Wells Hotel in Tunbridge Wells is to receive a £2.4 million transformation by Britain’s oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame. It will be the single largest refurbishment project to date for the Faversham-based brewery, which bought the Grade II listed 18th century hotel in September 2012. A month-long karaoke competition at The Telegraph pub in Deal raised over £7,000 for the Make A Wish Foundation.
Dawn James, licensee at the Shepherd Neame pub in Hamilton Road, launched the event in November.
A total of 15 customers entered the first round, which was judged by Dawn, along with local music enthusiasts and Telegraph regulars Alan Herbert and Bruce Adams.

The Market Inn, Faversham is a Victorian pub just out of the town centre, originally built to serve the town’s increasing population around the time of the arrival of the railway. This year the pub celebrated its 150th anniversary, and enjoyed an external makeover, giving it a clean, fresh look.The pub has been adapted over the years, but retains separate public and saloon bars, as well as a more
