Blog category: Pub of the Week

The Rugby Tavern is traditional English pub so named because it was built around 1850 on land donated by the founder of Rugby School.
Its central location, a short walk from the British Museum, London’s theatre district and the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras, makes the Rugby Tavern a lively, bustling pub used by office workers, Bloomsbury residents and tourists. Visitors can enjoy good food and drink, try their hand at darts, or take part in poker, poetry and quiz nights.
The Rugby Tavern has a large horseshoe-shaped bar and a generously-proportioned function room. Up to 30 customers can eat outside on the pub’s pavement frontage during warm weather. Featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, the pub keeps a variety of traditional Kentish cask ales in excellent condition. There is also a choice of distinctive international lagers and a good selection of wines.
A selection of good quality pub food is available in the bar and al fresco dining in front of the pub is enjoyed during the warm summer months. A function room is also available for those looking to hold parties and meetings.
The Rugby Tavern serves a range of traditional English dishes, freshly-prepared on the premises, using the finest seasonal produce whenever possible. The kitchen also offers a wide range of popular dishes, daily specials and vegetarian options.
The wine list includes a number of exclusive New World wines from specially-selected vineyards in Australia, New Zealand, Chile and South Africa. The Rugby Tavern has an adaptable function room available for private hire, which is suitable for a wide range of events including wedding receptions, parties and meetings.
The room seats up to 60 diners - 40 in theatre style - or can accommodate up to 80 guests for a stand-up buffet. The kitchen can provide a selection of food, from three-course meals to finger buffets, hot buffets and sandwiches. Although the pub is closed to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, the whole premises are available for private hire at weekends.
