This week’s pub is the incredible Grove Ferry Inn located in the Stodmarsh Nature Reserve, on the beautiful River Stour - just 7 minutes from historic Canterbury’s city centre. The pub was originally built in 1831 and takes its name from a hand drawn ferry that once crossed the river in front of the pub. Its beautiful waterside setting continues to inspire to this day, with the pubs large garden and decked area overlooking the river, on which river trips frequently take place. The garden is perfect for families; it even contains a children’s play area.

The stylish pub offers a wide range of seasonal, fresh meals - all prepared and cooked onsite using only local produce, the majority of which farmed and foraged from the pubs gardens or the surrounding area in Kent. Seasoning comes from the pubs very own herb garden.  Food at the Grove is prepared by ‘the rambling chef’ James Fraser, who has recently appeared on TV for his foraging efforts.

All food is cooked to order and served fresh, and if something you want isn’t on the menu just let them know and they’ll endeavour to prepare it for you specially! (Subject to them having the ingredients how busy they are of course!) The pub has a simple ethos when it comes to food – it has to be simple, local, fresh, ethically sourced and tasty!

The pub holds busy live music events every Friday night and some Saturdays, with music ranging from Blues and Jazz to Acoustic bands. It also has a large, picturesque function room that can be hired, equipped with conference facilities, a whiteboard and projector, making it perfect for events ranging from weddings and parties to professional meetings. TV forager James can also arrange foraging trips into the countryside as day trips or team building exercises.

The Grove has 6 huge en suite bedrooms and has recently been voted one of the top 10 Bed and Breakfasts in the UK by Yours magazine.  All of the rooms are equipped with a double bed and en suite showers. Family rooms with an extra single bed and rooms with Baths are also available.

The Grove is a pub full of country charm and character, serving fresh, locally sourced food set on a beautiful riverside complete with Shepherd Neames award winning ales and wines, what’s not to love?
