The pub, which was once known as The Noah’s Ark, is set in a stunning grade II listed building built over 300 years ago. Landlord Robert Chandler later changed the name to Duke of Cumberland in 1748.

For many years the pub was used as the headquarters of the famous oyster and dredger men of Whitstable, and in 1866 a fire swept through the pub prompting a complete rebuild before joining the Shepherd Neame pub family.

Today, The Duke of Cumberland serves as a bustling pub, hotel and restaurant that offers the finest Shepherd Neame ales, top quality food, comfortable rooms, live music and great company.

The pubs simple, delicious bar menu is served Monday to Saturday from midday until 3pm and at the end of the pubs courtyard is the Salt Marsh restaurant. After moving from its original location on Oxford Street in 2008, The Salt marsh restaurant continues to cook hearty, Mediterranean style food. The restaurant uses only fresh quality produce from local suppliers, keeping the cooking simple and letting the great food speak for itself.

The Duke is also proud to boast 8 hotel rooms available for single or multiple night stays. All rooms are fully equipped with LCD TV’s tea and coffee making facilities and free WI – FI. In addition, all rooms include breakfast in the morning.
