A sandwich, which was crowned ‘Sandwich of Sandwich’ in May 2012, is now in with a chance of becoming the nation’s Best Pub Sandwich, having been announced as one of three finalists in the National Pub Food Challenge Awards
Sandwich pub The Market Inn’s Market Sandwich won ‘Sandwich of Sandwich’ last year and has since attracted a host of international media attention, with a TV crew coming from as far away as Israel!
The sandwich, which sets judges’ taste buds tingling, was concocted by licensee Jeanette Todd and is a delicious combination of pastrami, pulsed black beans with cumin, feta, red onion, fresh coriander and tomato, dressed with chilli and lime mayonnaise on wholegrain bread.
Jeanette will receive a visit from National Pub Food Challenge award judges this month, when she will be interviewed, asked to prepare two sandwiches from the pub’s menu and a main course dish using mystery ingredients.  The winner will be announced at a presentation event at the end of March.
Jeanette, who has run the pub with partner Bob Taylor since April 2012, comments:  “Since we won ‘Sandwich of Sandwich’, the Market Sandwich is a popular choice on the menu and it’s been photographed by the media and tourists on numerous occasions. It’s very exciting and we’re delighted – and a little daunted - to be in the running for another award!”
As well as the famous Market Sandwich, visitors to the pub can also sample Jeanette’s cooked breakfasts and traditional pub lunches or stop off for afternoon tea and novel desserts served-in vintage teacups in the pub’s 16th century tea room.
