Meet the Writers

Posted: 03 August 2011

Monday night was the annual meeting of the British Guild of Beer Writers and their industry friends on the eve of the Great British Beer Festival.

The venue for the event was the superb Brew Wharf in Borough Market, London.

The evening was a great opportunity to mix with the leading beer writers, marketing people and brewers from around the country. This year there were some of our writing colleagues from further a field including Stan Hieronymus from America, (who I believe is over researching for a new book).

This was an informal evening where opinions could be expressed, new contacts made and old acquaintances renewed all over a glass or two of fine beer straight from the cask. Conversations inevitably included the relevant merits of the beers available (ranging from 3.5% blonde / golden ales to a very interesting Black IPA from Windsor and Eton Brewery) through to how beers should be packaged, which hops are favourite, what flavours they impart and what new products are in the pipeline (as well as are old favourite seasonals going to make a come back).

The evening was a perfect pre GBBF event since it is so easy to come away from Earls Court having missed half the people you hoped to see just due to its size and the popularity of the Festival.
