Hastings pub, The Fountain Hotel, has a new-look and a new licensee, music man Guy Gillam, who has exciting plans to bring a host of music events to the town.

Guy has joined forces with brewers Shepherd Neame to invest £40,000 refurbishing the pub, in preparation for its new role as a major music venue in Hastings.

Talking about his plans for the pub, Guy, originally from Newcastle, said: “After more than 30 years in the music industry managing artists such as former Clash guitarist Mick Jones, I’ve decided to take on a new challenge.  Now I’m drawing on my industry contacts to line-up the best bands and DJs and give The Fountain customers an experience not to be missed!

“It’s going to be quite an organic approach with special guests such as Fun Loving Criminals’ frontman and BBC Radio Six Music presenter Huey Morgan turning up to gigs unannounced, so you never know when you’ll be in for an extra treat!”

Guy, who used to run the merchandising at the Glastonbury Festival, continues to manage Mick Jones, who has just returned from a tour with The Stone Roses.  He has now turned his attention to transforming the pub and organising a solid schedule of weekend gigs from now until Christmas.

The pub’s refurbishment has included a complete decoration inside and out.  Timber floors have been sanded and part of a dividing wall has been removed to open-up the pub into one large bar, which gives better visibility of the newly-created stage.

As an accompaniment to the music, Fountain customers will be able to enjoy hearty, home-cooked food such as Sunday Roasts and from 5-8pm on weeknights, traditional ‘Pie and Mash’.

Shepherd Neame property and tenanted trade director George Barnes, comments:  “The Fountain’s diverse music line-up is a hugely exciting proposition for the town.  Guy is using his passion for music and his industry experience to great effect in creating a vibrant music-led pub experience.”
