The Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre in Faversham has struck gold by going green, having received a gold award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme for its continuing work implementing and promoting sustainable practices.

To achieve the award, a thorough audit was carried out covering of every aspect of the Visitor Centre which offers Brewery Tours and is also a popular venue for weddings, private dining, concerts and meetings. Green Tourism Co-ordinator Fran Collins said “Over 60 sustainable measures and initiatives were assessed and scored, and we are thrilled to get this award; it’s a result of a great deal of work by the whole team.”

The Visitor Centre became the first non-wildlife attraction in Kent to obtain a Green Award when it attained the silver level two years ago and is now one of just five tourism business in the County to reach the gold standard.

Green Tourism assessor, Stuart Park commented, “Shepherd Neame Visitor Centre has done very well indeed, progressing to the prestigious Gold level of award. Effort has clearly been made by the very committed staff over the last two years. The green message is now communicated very well, on marketing materials and in various places in the centre and on the tour.”

He also had praise for the Visitor Centre’s shop: “It sells a good amount of Kent made products including preserves and, of course, beer - some of which helps raise funds for charities.”

This accolade comes hot on the heels of Shepherd Neame’s success at the Beautiful South Awards in November, where the Visitor Centre won silver in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category.

To celebrate these successes, the Visitor Centre is offering a 20% discount on its popular Brewery Tours until the end of February.  The guided tour take visitors through the heart of the brewery to see how Shepherd Neame’s famous Kentish ales and speciality lagers are produced and ends with an entertaining tutored tasting.  To book call 01795 542016 and quote “Green Offer”.
