I wrote in February that Asahi Super Dry had won a gold medal in the Brewing Industry International Awards and on Tuesday at a ceremony in Londons Guildhall it was announced that Asahi had taken the trophy for the best beer in its class. Chairman of Judges, Bill Taylor commented that the trophy winning beers as judged by a panel of 30 international brewers from around the world were truely the best of the best. Add to that the fact that we have won three Gold prizes in the Monde Select and it has been a very good week indeed.
The weather has finally started to cheer up and our spring beer Early Bird is now out and in our pubs. Early Bird has in it Goldings hops which are those that ripen at the very start of the picking season, hence the name of the hops and the beer.
Talking to maltsters and hop growers this week it seems the weather is also good for the crops and both groups are happy at the moment that we are set fair for reasonable crops come the autumn. Of course a lot can happen between now and then and if it does I will keep you updated.
